The next step on Our Road to Tomorrow: SYNETIQ gain Silver Carbon Literacy accreditation

SYNETIQ, the UK’s leading integrated vehicle salvage, dismantling and recycling business, has become the first in its sector to officially become a Silver Carbon Literate Organisation. The accreditation further underlines SYNETIQ’s commitment to embedding sustainability across its operations.

The business has been collaborating closely with the Carbon Literacy Project since November 2020 as part of its Our Road to Tomorrow sustainability roadmap, which it hopes will drive a more sustainable future for motoring.

After receiving bronze accreditation in June, SYNETIQ has doubled down its efforts to engage more of its colleagues and the wider automotive industry in sustainability education through Carbon Literacy training.

The silver accreditation sees the organisation join 13 other Silver accredited organisations including Auto Trader, ITV Studios and Manchester City Council.

By sharing its sustainability journey, SYNETIQ has created a ripple effect for the wider industry and beyond. In November 2021 CEO Tom Rumboll spoke at the Yorkshire Post Climate Change Summit to discuss how SYNETIQ has created a climate conscious culture and how The Carbon Literacy Project’s Carbon Literacy training has helped educate and empower its colleagues to make lasting environmental change.

Since May 2021, SYNETIQ has delivered 19 Carbon Literacy training sessions, including five sessions during the Carbon Literacy Action Day which took place on 1st November.

183 colleagues across the business have undergone training, having pledged to reduce their carbon footprints.

Commenting on the silver accreditation, Anna Reade, Client Relationship Manager and one of five Carbon Literacy trainers at SYNETIQ said, “We are so proud to achieve silver accreditation. While we help our clients to reduce their emissions through the sale and reuse of green parts, minimising our own internal carbon footprint is crucial to our sustainability goals too.”

A deeper awareness of climate change is a valuable tool to help everybody reduce their carbon footprint.” Carbon Literacy Training is an accredited training course, recognised by the United Nations at COP21 where it was chosen as one of 100 worldwide Transformative Action Programs. Through the training, learners gain an awareness of the impact of their everyday activities on the climate, and a greater understanding and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis.
